The Overview

Money Club is a peer-to-peer (P2P) social savings platform that digitizes the traditional “Committee” or “Chit Fund” model. In this setup, a group of people pools money monthly, and members bid to “win” the total pot. The highest bidder takes the lump sum, while the “commission” they bid is distributed as profit among the remaining members.

The challenge was to take a functional but dated application and transform it into a high-engagement platform. The redesign focused on humanizing the onboarding process, streamlining complex KYC requirements, and injecting adrenaline into the live bidding chatroom to drive user participation and retention.

The Challenge

Translating an offline, trust-based social system into a digital product presented several UX hurdles:

Key challenges included:

  • The Trust Gap: Users are naturally hesitant to pool large sums of money with strangers online; the UI needed to look professional, secure, and intuitive.
  • Dated Visual Identity: The original app used a cluttered, data-heavy dashboard that felt more like a spreadsheet than a social club.
  • KYC Friction: Traditional financial verification is tedious; the goal was to keep users motivated through a multi-step document and fee verification process.
  • Static Bidding: The original bidding process felt mechanical. It lacked the “heat” and excitement of a live auction, leading to passive user behavior.
  • Complex Logic: Explaining the concept of “bidding for a pot” and “earning interest” through a mobile screen required a clear, step-by-step narrative.

The Objective

The project was defined by the goal of “making finance feel like a win”:

  • Modernize the Visual Language: Adopt a clean, approachable Light Blue and White palette for the Money Club brand to signify transparency and ease of use.
  • Gamify the Onboarding: Use progress indicators and milestone celebrations to turn registration into a “leveling up” experience.
  • Simplify KYC: Break the legal verification into a transparent, checklist-based journey to reduce user anxiety.
  • Inject Live Energy: Redesign the Bid Chatroom with dynamic UI states that change color based on the “heat” of the bidding round.
  • Optimize Social Interaction: Keep the community chat central to the bidding flow to leverage social pressure and peer trust.

The Solution

We implemented a four-pillar redesign strategy that balanced rigorous security with engaging game mechanics.

Humanized Onboarding & Registration

We replaced the old login screens with a clean, illustrative onboarding flow. By using custom graphics that visualize “contributing together,” we immediately established the social nature of the app. The flow uses a “micro-task” approachโ€”separating phone, email, and profile detailsโ€”to prevent user overwhelm.

Milestone-Based KYC & Verification

Recognizing that KYC is the biggest point of friction, we designed a Verification Checklist:

  • Status Tracking: A clear “Steps to complete” screen tells the user exactly where they stand (Joining Fee โ†’ Call Verification โ†’ Documents).
  • Psychological Rewards: Upon completing steps, users are met with “Congratulations” screens and success illustrations, signaling that they are “cleared for takeoff.”

The “Heat-Map” Bid Chatroom

The core innovation was the dynamic bidding interface. We created a UI that reacts to the intensity of the round:

  • Cool State (Light Blue): The round begins in a calm, neutral light blue state for standard communication and information gathering.
  • Warm State (Yellow): As the bidding starts, the UI shifts to Yellow, signaling that the “money is on the table” and the round is heating up.
  • Hot State (Red): In the final moments of a high-stakes bid, the UI turns Red. This color shift triggers a sense of urgency (FOMO), encouraging users to place their final bids before the timer expires.

Data-Rich Dashboard & Social Feed

The Home Page was redesigned into a scrollable feed that balances personal stats with “Social Proof.” Large, clear cards show the scale of the platform, while a leaderboard gamifies the experience by highlighting active and successful club members.

The Impact

The redesign transformed Money Club from a utility tool into a vibrant, trust-driven financial community.

Key outcomes included:

  • Heightened Bidding Engagement: The introduction of the “Heat-Map” UI created a more competitive atmosphere, making the final moments of a bid feel like a high-stakes live auction.
  • Streamlined Verification Journey: The transparent checklist and milestone rewards made the tedious KYC process feel faster and more rewarding, encouraging users to complete their verification.
  • Professional Brand Perception: The new light blue theme significantly improved user confidence, moving the app away from a “technical tool” look toward a modern, accessible FinTech experience.
  • Digital Ritual: Successfully replicated the “social energy” of an offline committee in a digital space.
  • Scalable UI Framework: The dynamic color-shifting logic established a blueprint for other time-sensitive events within the platform.
